Oh, what a mess the Iranians are making for themselves: first, they arrest nine British embassy employees on the grounds that they helped incite protestors to riot after the election. They release all but two, whom they are now going to put on trial, as the BBC reports: "Guardians Council chief Ahmad Jannati said: "Naturally they will be put on trial, they have made confessions.".."In these incidents, their embassy had a presence, some people were arrested," he told the thousands of worshippers at Friday prayers, according to news agencies. "After the election, the enemy could not stand people's joy. The enemy made an effort to poison the people. They had planned a velvet revolution before the election."
He said the UK Foreign Office had warned of possible "street riots" around the 12 June election and had advised its nationals to avoid public places."
No formal charges have been made. One of the strategies that Iran is using to try and re-establish the government's legitimacy, is having clerics make most of the harsher announcements, showing that they, not the military, are in charge. Mr Ahmadinejad is keeping a low profile while this is going on, and he may have to tone down his rhetoric when he is allowed back on the scene. It's also interesting that instead of news conferences, this kind of news is given during Friday prayers, trying to put a cloak of faith over the political. Imagine if churches in our country did that during elections and after...

In response: "EU governments are to summon Iranian ambassadors to protest against the detention of the embassy staff. An EU official told the BBC that, in addition, visas for Iranians holding Iranian diplomatic passports would be suspended." This may cause a minor crisis when Iranian diplomats will no longer be able to smuggle their favorite over the counter medicines or alcohol back into Iran for their friends and families...

There must be a schizophrenic war going on within our intelligence community, which is proving to be oxymoronic. The FBI just released the notes of George Piro, who interviewed Saddam Hussein over 20 times. From al Jazeera: "Saddam Hussein, the former Iraqi president, allowed the world to believe his country had weapons of mass destruction in an attempt to deter an Iranian invasion, an FBI file has revealed.

In 20 formal interviews and five "casual conversations" with George Piro, an FBI agent, Saddam said he considered Iran to be a bigger threat to Iraq than the US."Hussein believed that Iraq could not appear weak to its enemies, especially Iran," the agent wrote in June 2004.
The former leader also said that Iraq had never co-operated with al Qaeda, nor met Osama bin Laden, its leader, who he described as a "zealot". He told the FBI the US had "used the 9/11 attack as a justification" to invade Iraq." We are now awaiting Dick Cheney's response...

Tina Brown used to be editor of Vanity Fair, and now is milking that magazine's article on Sarah Palin with a few pieces in her newest online venture, the Daily Beast. The first is a blog by Michelle Goldberg, that responds to the idea that Sarah suffers from narcissistic personality disorder.

Second is another blog excerpting the 10 best quotes from the Vanity Fair article. And third has John Batchelor putting a positive spin on the results of the article. The article has launched much controversy, and CBS has gotten ahold of more flaming emails between Palin and Steve Schmidt, campaign manager for John McCain: "Internal campaign e-mails exchanged three weeks before Election Day offer a rare look at just how frustrated then Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin had become with the manner in which top McCain campaign aides were handling her candidacy. The e-mails, obtained exclusively, also highlight the power struggle and thinly veiled acrimony that pervaded the relationship between Palin and the campaign's chief strategist, Steve Schmidt. " Yet, back in Alaska her popularity is sagging every time she leaves the state...

What fun! Make yourself another cup of coffee, or, if it's later in the day may I suggest a margarita or pina colada, click on the links and read all of the stories. If you didn't like Sara before, all of this journalistic dishing of the dirt will reinforce your feelings, but it also will reinforce your admiration for her if you like her. I think this proves our fascination with the woman. How about a Sara Palin and Dan Quayle ticket for 2012? No, how about Sara and Michelle Malkin? This is the start of a wonderful game you can do with friends, coming up with the most outrageous pairings for Sara in 2012. Write in with your favorites... Sarah Palin/Perez Hilton 2012...

Have a wonderful Fourth of July, say a prayer for our troops, and maybe on for Mark Sanford, who has announced that he will be in Florida with his wife and family. But it's awfully close to a border, so we'll see if he crosses the line or not...
