Its official, Alaska's Ted Stevens has conceded the Senatorial race to Democrat Mark Begich, which ends speculation about Sarah Palin's desire to replace him in a special election. He also showed more grace in defeat than our own Marilyn Musgrave, who has not conceded to her opponent nor made any kind of public appearance 15 days after the election. She's probably holed up in some Mexican resort having a giant bender, sucking down those pina coladas by the pitcher, trying to erase those feelings of losing and depression.
You know when you visit other countries and they seem stuck in an earlier time frame? Now imagine how far back in time living in caves and tunnels in rural Pakistan must be like. The recent tape of Al Qaeda's number two honcho, Ayman al-Zawahri, where he seems to be channeling the 60's in comparing Barack Obama to Malcolm X and calling him a House Negro is a good example.
It's a pretty lame argument he's trying to make, clearly wanting to stem the popularity of Obama even in the Muslim world. Where George Bush can be demonized for invading and occupying Iraq and Afghanistan for poor reasons, Al Qaeda may not be able to get recruits as easily as before. And it may die a natural death as a terrorist organization. One in every four males is unemployed in the Middle East, but if you take away the emotional reasoning for wanting to get killed or blowing yourself up in a suicide bombing, then they may just hang out at whatever passes for a mall or cybercafe instead.
